Isabelle Duval is French Artist, living and working in Amsterdam. Isabelle is inspired by life's extremes and life's contradictions. She considers art to be an excellent medium through which to express powerful themes such as the relationship between living beings and dead matter and also the boundaries of what attracts us and what repulses us. Her work is striking, intelligent and vivid. It celebrates the magnificence as well as the ambiguity of life.
From her inspirational studio on the western Timber docks (Houthavens), Isabelle expresses herself mainly through painting but increasingly uses other media such as sculpture, drawing, photography and film. She works with mixed media including plastics, resin and glass. Acrylic paint and pencil on paper is the current focus of her work.
Isabelle graduated from Amsterdam’s prestigious Gerrit Rietveld Academy in 2002. She has exhibited in Paris, Amsterdam, The Hague, Delft and indeed throughout the Netherlands. Her most recent exhibition, called ‘Frozen’ was at the Duivelseiland Gallery, Amsterdam in 2009.
‘To be born, to appear, to show oneself, to hide, and finally to disappear... Life, our lives are nothing more than a storm in teacup.’ Isabelle Duval
