Opens 16 March – 7 April 2013 Ricardo Galán Urréjola opens his first Dutch show on March 16th 2013 at Galerie Mokum. You are invited by Mokum to attend the exhibition opening on Saturday, March 16 from 4 – 6pm
The Spanish artist Urréjola mainly paints fragments of contemporary cityscapes. His images depict cars, buses and trams driving by city streets filled with advertising signs, shops and the general background of city life and architecture.
Initially, you may not consider this to be the most aesthetic of topics, but Urréjola treats the vehicles, rainy streets and the sometimes drab, raw scenes in the cities in a fascinating and exciting way.
By creating recognition in the viewer, he touches that emotion that is a longing for the hustle and bustle and dynamism of the city. During a recent visit to The Netherlands, he was inspired by Amsterdam. It is the series of works that followed that are showcased in the new Galerie Mokum exhibition.
As a true city chronicler he masterfully depicts the monumental, urban character of our capital city and he gives at once the viable character and her intimacy.
